We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a VP Partnerships & Ecosystem Engagement on our Digital Health & AI team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

As a VP Partnerships & Ecosystem Engagement, you will lead the American Medical Association's (AMA) strategy to shape, build, and influence the evolving health care technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for developing high-impact partnerships with health tech companies, investors, innovators, and ecosystem stakeholders to ensure digital health, AI, and emerging technologies, advancing physician-led innovation, improving patient care, and aligning with AMA's mission. The VP will serve as a thought leader, connector, and relationship builder, ensuring AMA remains at the center of health innovation while safeguarding physician and patient needs. This role is a key contributor in building out the AMA's Digital Health and AI team, strategy and goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Define and execute AMA's partnerships and ecosystem engagement strategy across health care technology, digital health, and AI driving physician-led innovation.
  • Position the AMA as a trusted convener and thought leader with technology companies, start-ups, accelerators, investors, policymakers, and health systems.
  • Position AMA as the central hub for physician input into health tech design, evaluation, and adoption.
  • Build and maintain a robust ecosystem of partners, including physicians, ensuring diverse representation across specialties, practice settings, and technology domains.
  • Create mechanisms for physicians to share insights, test innovations, and provide feedback to technology developers.
  • Represent AMA in high-level industry forums, conferences, and consortiums to advance physician-centered perspectives in technology design and development.

Partnership Development & Management

  • Build and manage strategic relationships with leading health tech organizations, including large technology companies, EHR vendors, digital health startups, AI developers, payers, and research institutions.
  • Negotiate partnership agreements that drive value for physicians, patients, and the AMA.
  • Foster collaborations that accelerate evidence-based adoption of digital health and AI, advance interoperability, and support physician well-being.

Internal Leadership & Collaboration

  • Identify emerging trends, technologies, and business models shaping the health innovation landscape for the Center.
  • Collaborate with across the AMA to ensure external partnerships align with AMA policy, AMA messaging, and strategic initiatives.
  • Establish AMA as a leader in setting standards for responsible and ethical digital health innovation.
  • Provide strategic counsel to Center leadership on the health tech landscape and partnership opportunities.

Staff Management

  • Lead, mentor and provide management oversight for staff.
  • Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating employee performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Responsible for developing staff knowledge and skills to support career development.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree required, master's degree or MD/DO strongly preferred.
  2. 15+ years of leadership experience in partnerships, business development, strategy, or ecosystem engagement, preferably within health care and health technology.
  3. 10+ years' experience in people management required; able to attract and develop talent.
  4. Proven success building and managing strategic partnerships with health tech companies, investors, innovators, and ecosystem stakeholders.
  5. Deep knowledge of digital health, AI, interoperability, and emerging health technology trends, with an understanding of how they impact physicians and patients.
  6. Proven ability to influence complex ecosystems and serve as a trusted convener across diverse stakeholders (clinicians, policymakers, technologists, payers, investors) through exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  7. Familiarity with physician practice environments and health system operations, with an appreciation for the barriers and opportunities in digital health adoption.
  8. Track record of positioning organizations as thought leaders or trusted conveners within complex, fast-moving industries.
  9. Proven ability to translate insights into actionable strategies that advance mission-driven goals.
  10. Strong presence and credibility to represent AMA in national forums, conferences, and high-level convenings.
  11. Skilled at navigating alignment across internal teams, policy priorities, and external relationships.
  12. Published thought leadership or recognized contributions in health technology, innovation, or related fields preferred.
  13. Some travel required.

The American Medical Association is located at 330 N. Wabash Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611 and is convenient to all public transportation in Chicago.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $239,292-$323,044. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
