The MLS Intern program at Yale New Haven Health System provides university students with the opportunity to develop practical laboratory skills. Interns are given the opportunity to perform pre analytic lab functions, work on lab related projects and observe testing

Responsibilities

  • 1. Performs pre analytic functions according to established protocols and procedures under supervision of assigned Medical Lab Scientist
  • 2. Operates and performs maintenance on laboratory instrumentation per established policies and procedures under supervision of assigned Medical Lab Scientist
  • 3. Troubleshoots instrumentation with the aid of consulting technical services with proper documentation under
  • 4. Monitors inventory of supplies and orders supplies as necessary. Keeps adequate inventory. Monitors inventory so there is no wastage due to expiration of products
  • 5. Demonstrates competency and successful completion of program in assigned areas of specialty
  • 6. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled as well as the proper release of information
  • 7. Complies with policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements
  • 8. Complies with policies regarding attendance and dress code
  • 9. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment and knowledge of growth and development appropriate to the age of the patient treated (neonate, pediatric, adolescent or geriatric)
  • 10. Organizes and prioritizes daily workload in order to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion. Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • 11. Handles multiple assignments as necessary, with an ability to adapt to changes
  • 12. Coordinates and cooperates with co-workers to promote a productive working environment
  • 13. Demonstrates effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking pertinent questions
  • 14. Other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION

Currently enrolled in an University and has completed at least two years of college
