DOT oversees one of the most complex urban transportation networks in the world. DOT's staff manages an annual operating budget of $1.1 billion, along with 6,300 miles of streets and highways, over 12,000 miles of sidewalk, nearly 800 bridges and tunnels, including the iconic East River bridges, and the Staten Island Ferry. DOT staff also design bicycle facilities, bus lanes, and public plazas.
The New York City Department of Transportation seeks an Agency Attorney Interne to assist in the contracts division. Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment, the successful candidate will assist in the review, negotiation, drafting, and administration of contracts related to construction, professional services and procurement. The position offers hands on exposure to contract law, municipal law, public contracting and government operations in a fast-paced legal environment. This is a valuable opportunity for a new attorney to gain practical experience, sharpen legal skills and deepen their understanding of the law in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
-Assist with legal research and analysis related to public contracts, procurement laws and regulatory compliance;
-Review and summarize contracts, amendments and related documents for legal sufficiency
-Draft memoranda, correspondences and contract related documents
-Assist with compliance reviews involving New York City Charter provisions, Procurement Policy (Board) Rules and other applicable laws
-Organize and maintain contract files and supporting documentation
-Perform other legal and administrative tasks as assigned

Preferred Skills
-Knowledge of contracts, administrative or government law
-Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills
-Interest in municipal law, public procurement or infrastructure related legal work
-Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
-Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
