General Information:

This position's primary purpose is to provide comprehensive academic advising to current and prospective undergraduates in the Department of Kinesiology, including first-year and transfer students. The advisor will guide students in developing academic plans that align with their personal goals, covering General Education, major requirements, and various academic opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Academic Advising and Student Support: Provide comprehensive academic advising to current and prospective undergraduates in the Department of Kinesiology, including first-year and transfer students. Guide students in developing academic plans that align with their professional and personal goals, covering General Education, major requirements, and various academic opportunities. Support students on academic probation or suspension by clarifying expectations and helping them identify strategies to improve their academic performance

* Technology and Data Management: Use campus-wide advising technology to maintain accurate electronic student records, ensuring that all data is current and reliable. Contributes to the accuracy and accessibility of both online and print advising resources.

* Collaboration and Partnership Building: Serve as a liaison and resource for faculty and administrators in the college, fostering strong partnerships across academic departments and with campus colleagues. Collaborate on the development and maintenance of updated advising resources, ensuring that both students and staff have access to accurate and current information that supports academic success.

* University and Community Service: Participates in Kinesiology departmental meetings, shares information, and engages in professional development opportunities (e.g. those offered by University Advising). Serves on committees, projects, and initiatives that benefit the college and university community. Represents the department at recruitment events, providing prospective students with information about academic programs.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required
-Master's degree.
-Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate meaningfully with undergraduates.
-Willingness to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.
-Excellent oral and written communication, time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to multitask and navigate integrated student information systems in a dynamic environment.
-Exceptional work ethic.
-Demonstrated commitment to building a welcoming work environment.

Preferred
-Academic advising experience working directly with students in higher education.
-Experience advising in Kinesiology, Health Sciences, or related programs.
-Strong attention to detail combined with appreciation for the big picture.
-Familiarity with national trends and best practices in academic advising profession and higher education.
-Ability to multitask and navigate integrated student information systems in a dynamic environment.
-Experience with learning, interpreting, and articulating complex academic requirements, policies, and procedures.
