Salary: $118,400 - $187,000 (SE-III)


What your job will be like:

Provide management oversight (supervision, coordination, and leadership) for a team of electrical engineers and technicians supporting accelerator operations, experimental halls, and other lab initiatives. Responsibilities include, leading the development of new beam diagnostic instrumentation, maintaining an understanding of the Accelerator division's overall operational goals, keeping lC engineering staff abreast of latest technology, ensuring project workflows and hand-offs are completed in accordance with engineering expectations, EH&S, and assessing workloads against manpower resources and skill sets for the l&C group.



This will include working with customers to develop planning, cost, and schedules to maintain reliable diagnostic equipment to support accelerator operations. Utilize engineering resources to balance incoming work requests, assist in the prioritization of tasks, help to mitigate resource conflicts, and monitor customer satisfaction of engineering services.



The group leader is expected to operate with a large amount of autonomy in how they direct the group and interface with external departments (ACC and NP) inside and outside of Jefferson Lab.

In this job you will:
  • Independently carry out day-to-day operations of the Instrumentation and Controls group. Develop strategies to increase productivity and increase motivation through thoughtful work assignments within l&C.
  • Analyze accelerator downtime weekly and work with accelerator operability to increase machine availability. Investigate defective, damaged or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment or systems to determine the nature and scope of the problem.
  • Under the direction of the AES dept. head, help lead the development of beam diagnostics equipment. Participate in long range planning for future CEBAF Operations and Nuclear Physics beam diagnostics.
  • Ensure I&C projects are developed with relevant stakeholder involvement, reviewed at appropriate stages, and documented upon completion. Ensure equipment turn over meets the needs of the customers during acceptance testing.
  • Manage the coordination of I&C group's off-hour accelerator emergency repairs to support 24-hour a day operation of the accelerator.
  • Ensure the group follows all safety guidelines (EH&S) and stays abreast of their safety training.
  • Develop strategies to address yearly I&C system problems, repairs, maintenance and other issues related to system performance.
Lead - Supervisory - Management
  • The I&C group leader is responsible for the management, supervision, technical over site, and safety for RF staff supporting CEBAF operations and other JLAB initiatives. Carries out day to day operations of the RF group.
  • Manages the groups annual work plan and budget. Ensures resources are properly assigned to maintain CEBAF operations within budget. Recognize and communicates resource issues during the group's work planning process.
Experience
  • Required: 10 or more years: Relevant experience with electrical engineering systems.
  • Required: 5 or more years: Supervisory experience managing groups and projects (> $250k).)
  • Preferred: 5 or more years: Accelerator beam diagnostic applications, beam position monitors, timing systems, emittance diagnostics, vacuum systems, or motion control.
Education
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering
  • Preferred: Master's Degree Electrical Engineering

Licenses and Certifications
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Solid knowledge of electrical circuits and systems. Individual will be a system expert in one of the following areas, Control systems/theory, digital design (FPGAs, uproc) or Analog/RF design.
    • Demonstrated ability to compose and publish research work in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Ability to lead, plan and schedule complex technical projects > $250k.
    • Project and design experience in building and maintaining electronic instrumentation in particle accelerators.
