Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for an experienced Operations Technician III at our Delaware City, DE facility.

The Delaware City Refinery hydrogen (H) facility is located onsite at the PBF Refinery and consists of one Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) and associated equipment.

In the Operations Technician role, you will work closely with Mechanical Technicians, Instrument Technicians, fellow Operations Technicians, and Process Engineers to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the Hydrogen Plant, including active participation in the management of effective safety programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and control hydrogen production processes, including water treatment and boiler systems, DCS, rotating equipment, catalyst reactors, valves, and the syngas cleanup skid.
  • Read and interpret piping schematics and diagrams
  • Follow written procedures to start and stop equipment
  • Isolate systems for maintenance using permits and LOTO
  • Perform water chemistry testing
  • Operate manual and pneumatic valves
  • Operate systems remotely via Distributed Control System (DCS)
  • Stand rotating watches outside normal hours, including Turbine Generator Watch and CCS/DC Central Watch
  • Work safely in dynamic plant environments (noise, high temperatures, etc.)

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Willing to work 12hour rotating shifts and provide limited operations support to other North American sites
  • Strong team player with a clear dedication to safety
  • Strong communication skills
  • This is a SafetySensitive Position

The Plant Operator role aligns well with experience gained in Engineering Department ratings on surface and submarine platforms (nuclear and nonnuclear), including Machinist's Mate, Electrician's Mate, Damage Controlman, Engineman, Electronics Technician, and Gas Turbine Systems Technician.
