SHIFT: Day (United States of America)Seeking Breakthrough Makers This entry-level research technical role participates in planned research projects by performing research protocols, experimental procedures and other laboratory tasks under direct supervision. Eugene Khandros, MD, PhD, a pediatric hematologist physician scientist focused on developing new therapies for sickle cell disease, beta thalassemia, and other red blood cell disorders, is looking for a Research Technician I to start in the spring/summer of 2026. There are two main projects currently in the lab: 1)Chromatin remodeling enzymes in red blood cell development and hemoglobin transcriptional regulation. 2)Preclinical development of new gene therapy products for red blood cell disorders. The work will involve cell culture of human red blood cell precursors, genetic editing using CRISPR technology, and their analysis using flow cytometry and molecular biology techniques, as well as use of mouse models of sickle cell disease and thalassemia. Familiarity with mouse work, mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and basic molecular biology techniques such as western blot analysis, PCR, and gene cloning is preferred. The ideal applicant will be a team player, work independently but with regular communication with the PI, have strong organizational and data analysis skills, and willing to make a 2-year commitment to this research.
