Data Scientist

Overview

Join OST's Data & Analytics team within the CTO organization, where you'll help drive mission-critical decisions through data. This role blends hands-on analytics, engineering, and customer-facing work-giving you the opportunity to build impactful solutions, influence strategy, and support high-visibility government programs.

Job Duties

As a Data Scientist, you will:



  • Partner with technical and business teams to design and deliver data-driven solutions for mission and growth initiatives
  • Collect, ingest, and transform data from multiple sources to create reliable, analysis-ready datasets
  • Perform data analysis, visualization, and reporting to uncover trends, insights, and actionable recommendations
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain analytics and AI/ML solutions supporting real-world business use cases
  • Support proposal efforts and customer engagements, including technical write-ups, demos, and presentations
  • Help project teams optimize performance, reduce risk, and improve outcomes using data-driven approaches
  • Contribute to data governance and quality efforts, including defining KPIs, maintaining metadata, and ensuring data integrity
  • Promote a data-driven culture by sharing knowledge, training teams, and supporting internal initiatives



Job Requirements

Experience & Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or related role
  • Active clearance (highly preferred / required based on program)


Core Skills



  • Experience working across the full data lifecycle: ingestion, transformation, analysis, and visualization
  • Strong foundation in data preparation, data modeling, and database systems (SQL and/or NoSQL)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and machine learning
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, QuickSight, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar)
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and tools (e.g., Databricks, AWS Glue, or similar)


Analytics & Technical Capabilities



  • Experience with statistical analysis, exploratory data analysis, and hypothesis testing
  • Exposure to predictive modeling or machine learning techniques
  • Ability to work with both structured and unstructured data


Professional Skills



  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into clear insights
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, client-facing environment
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and quality
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and within teams



Nice to Have



  • Master's or PhD in a related field
  • Experience with end-to-end data science lifecycle in large-scale or enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and tools (e.g., Collibra)
  • Experience with big data platforms and modern data architectures
  • Exposure to streaming data, IoT, or real-time analytics
  • Experience with simulation methods (Monte Carlo, discrete event, etc.)
  • Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, Databricks, SAS, etc.)
  • Six Sigma certification
  • Prior experience supporting government or DoD program
