The Purchasing Specialist is a key tactical contributor within a manufacturing environment, responsible for the endtoend procurement of raw materials, components, MRO supplies, and services that support uninterrupted production operations. This role manages purchase order execution, tracks supplier performance and deliveries, and ensures a high level of data accuracy while building effective supplier relationships. By driving ontime delivery and costeffective purchasing decisions, the Purchasing Specialist plays a critical role in optimizing inventory levels and maintaining production continuity.

Explore your tasks and responsibilities

Purchasing & Material Acquisition

  • Create and issue purchase orders for raw materials, components, fabricated parts, consumables, and MRO items.
  • Review manufacturing requirements, BOMs, and production schedules to determine purchasing needs.
  • Obtain competitive quotes from approved suppliers and support cost reduction initiatives.
  • Track open orders daily to ensure materials ship and arrive on schedule.

Supplier Communication & Performance

  • Communicate material specifications, quantities, drawings, revisions, and delivery requirements to suppliers.
  • Follow up with vendors on order confirmations, lead times, delays, and backorders.
  • Assist with supplier performance monitoring (on time delivery, quality, responsiveness).

Production & Inventory Support

  • Collaborate with production planners to support build schedules and respond to material shortages.
  • Work with inventory control and warehouse teams to resolve receiving issues-including overages, damaged goods, incorrect materials, or missing certs.
  • Help maintain safety stock and reorder points for critical manufacturing items.

Documentation & Quality Compliance

  • Verify that purchased materials meet required specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data for part numbers, suppliers, pricing, and lead times.

Internal Collaboration

  • Coordinate with engineering on drawing changes, new part introductions, and supplier capability questions.
  • Work with quality teams to support nonconformance resolution and corrective actions.
  • Support finance with invoice discrepancies and cost verification.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of purchasing, production support, or related experience-preferably in manufacturing.
  • Understanding basic manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, assembly) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Infor LN).
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to prioritize in a fast paced production environment.
  • Effective communication skills with internal teams and suppliers.
