Position Description

The CSHL Meetings and Courses Department brings together more than 11,000 scientists each year from around the world to present and evaluate new data and ideas in biological research, including molecular and cell biology, neuroscience, DNA gene expressions, and genomics. The IT Coordinator provides sole support for the ongoing meetings, symposiums, and seasonal course programs and primary support for the Meetings & Courses staff, working with the internal IT department as well as outside computer equipment/IT vendors.

Position Responsibilities

- Consult with internationally based course instructors and researchers to determine the best technical configuration to meet each course's scientific and computational objectives.
- Recommend, procure, install, and support computer equipment and peripherals that are aligned with each course's standards.
- Work with Course Operations & Logistics to ensure course flow and objectives are exceeded.
- Procurement and Rental of computer equipment from outside vendors
- Administer storage protocols and servers, course wikis and CMS/LMS (Course/Learning Management System)
- Assist Audio and Visual Services team to enhance media presentations including interactive streaming and web services.
- Computer HW/SW support, including desktops (Mac + PC), laptops, printers, and mobile devices.
- Assist in the training of staff as to maximize their computer and application knowledge.
- Hire and manage IT assistant/intern(s) to assist throughout the course season.
- Achieve various IT education and certification to adequately support department needs (A+ preferred)
- Printer and networked device management, including configuration, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shared and course-specific printers.
- Maintain and organize IT supply rooms
- Maintain and update IT supply inventory sheets
- Submit requisitions to order IT supplies

Position Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an IT environment. EXPERIENCE: 4 years' experience with hardware and software installation and configuration in a fast-paced environment SKILLS: Proficient in both Windows and macOS environments, with strong expertise in computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications. Demonstrates advanced troubleshooting and repair skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across hardware, software, network connectivity, and peripheral devices in fast-paced environments. Possesses a solid understanding of networking protocols, system configuration, command-line tools, and web standards, enabling efficient problem resolution and system optimization.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
