What You'll Do

First level Supervisor providing leadership, supervision, and oversight to Numerical Control Engineers responsible for the development of Numerical Control (NC) Programs for machining operations. The machining NC programmer is responsible for creating and developing the code that directs Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to perform tasks like cutting, drilling, or milling materials. They also optimize machining processes to enhance efficiency and product quality. The machining NC programmer is a specialized programmer who creates NC programs to control a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), essentially instructing the machine how to precisely measure the dimensions and geometry of a physical part using automated probing techniques, all based on numerical data and precise instructions within the program. Both machining and inspection programmers collaborate with engineers, machinists, and other personnel to ensure the highest quality and continuous improvement in our weapons production processes.



Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, flow down of goals, expectations, and priorities and integrating work within the supervised organization. Monitors department workload to ensure staff is cognizant of schedule, and technical commitments. Will help development department level NC engineering training and ensures employees have completed assigned trainings. Advises management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload. Provides input to management on budgets, proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and related documents required to meet customer needs. May be required to provide and/or prepare technical presentations and reports. Upholds optimal quality standards while adapting to evolving technology to retain technical relevance and to avoid encroaching obsolescence of equipment. Identifies crucial skills needed within the NC Engineering technical organization and configures the structure to provide resiliency in the group and promote employee growth.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science [Chemistry, Physics, or related] from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET AND 5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and 2 years of supervisor experience.
  • Experience in an NRC or DOE regulated environment
  • Demonstrated skill in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, and management of technical issues
  • Requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required. Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
