The Role:

Sitting within the Research & Development team, the Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for determining the most effective methods to manufacture and increase productivity and efficiency through the implementation of new processes, equipment and automation.

Our R&D Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate early in the design phase of new product engineering to ensure the manufacturability of components, design and build new equipment, prepare proper tooling, and advise necessary processes while implementing automation wherever possible. Additionally, they will design new tooling required for new products, parts, or components, including research and purchasing decisions. They will write and submit capital requests and ensure successful approval and implementation.

This position is located in Ogden, Utah.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement new equipment and specialized tooling while utilizing automation where possible.
  • Study material flow and operations sequence; map process and conducts studies to maximize workflow and spatial utilization; monitor and works to improve efficiency and safe operations to meet customer quality and throughput needs.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure process controls for new and existing equipment and processes, including TPM, PM, and safe operation compliance.
  • Will help design prototypes or modifications to new and existing products or equipment.
  • Create and administer training material on process control activities; recommend revisions and updates to standard operating procedures and work instructions as needed.
  • Create sampling procedures and designs for recording, evaluating, and reporting process output while evaluating production and testing equipment.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing methodology for process improvement initiatives; provides periodic reports on cost savings and process improvements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Automation or Industrial Engineering or technical field is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Proven working experience with CAD, Solid Modeling and 3D Design experience is preferred.
  • Proven working experience with manufacturing processes such as heavy equipment manufacturing, welding technology, controls and automation, materials technology, and manufacturing methods.
  • Knowledge of various computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
  • Proven working experience presenting data findings to the broader organization (employees, managers, and industry peers) while communicating the next best steps for the business.
  • Proven working experience tracking and collecting data.
  • JDE experience preferred.
