Job Description
Virginia's community colleges have a 50-year track record of educational excellence and innovation to serve the needs of our citizens and strengthen the Commonwealth's economy. When Virginia's General Assembly established the Virginia Community College System in 1966, the need for a comprehensive system was well known. Over the two decades after the end of World War II, leaders in government, business, professional sectors, and academia had called for a new approach to providing educational opportunity. A key concern was Virginia's ability to develop a skilled and knowledgeable workforce to expand the state's economy. Today our community colleges give every Virginian the opportunity to gain a quality education. With 23 colleges on 40 campuses located throughout the state, Virginia's Community Colleges are committed to serving Virginia families, helping them acquire the knowledge and skills to seize the opportunities of today and tomorrow.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs leads and implements system-wide strategies that improve student access and success. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic and Workforce programs, this position works in concert with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Associate Vice Chancellor of Career Education and Workforce, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Institutional Research, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Professional Development. The position is integral to the organization and works closely with executive and senior staff at the system office and the colleges.
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of VCCS student services initiatives with primary responsibilities for the management and oversight of the student services component of the Academic and Workforce division. This position will provide system-wide leadership for admissions, records and registration, student financial aid, holistic student support, enrollment management, student conduct, Title IX compliance, services for targeted student populations, retention efforts, and strategic initiatives. This includes but is not limited to the system-wide strategic plan, services and initiatives that support improving student outcomes, student enrollment, and student completions. Additionally, this position will work with other members of the Academic and Workforce Programs team to connect students to job and career opportunities.
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, in concert with Vice Presidents of Student Affairs, provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the design, development, and continuous improvement of student affairs programs and services across Virginia's 23 community colleges. This position is responsible for ensuring equitable access, student engagement, and holistic success aligned with the VCCS mission to deliver high-quality, affordable, and inclusive education that empowers all Virginians to learn and thrive.
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs leads efforts to advance the "One System, One Experience" approach by promoting consistency in student support services, enrollment management, financial aid, student conduct, and holistic student initiatives across the System. The position works collaboratively with system office leadership, chief student affairs officers, chief academic officers, and state and national partners to strengthen the student experience and position the VCCS as a national model for a student-centered community college education. The position is supported by four (4) system office student affairs/services departments.
