THE ROLE

The Senior Manager of Software Development within Client Software Performance Engineering (SPE) leads largescale performance optimization initiatives critical to AMD's client product success. This role blends deep technical leadership with strong people and organizational leadership, owning both what work gets done and how it is executed across SPE.

Reporting to senior SPE leadership, the role is central to scaling SPE from expertdriven execution into a repeatable, highthroughput, highcredibility organization. The Senior Manager ensures AMD's software investments translate into measurable, defensible realworld performance, responsiveness, and performanceperwatt benefits across the applications and workloads that matter most to users and customers.

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate is an experienced technical leader with a strong background in performancecritical software and a proven ability to scale and lead complex engineering organizations. They combine technical depth with operational rigor, are highly datadriven, and are comfortable operating at a scope where performance outcomes influence product strategy, architecture decisions, and market positioning.

They are equally effective mentoring engineers, managing managers, shaping execution frameworks, and representing SPE in senior technical and business forums.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

AIEnhanced Development & Agentic Workflow Leadership

  • Own the strategic adoption and execution of AIenhanced coding methodologies across software development teams
  • Lead the definition, development, and scaling of agentic workflows that apply autonomous or semiautonomous agents to multistep engineering tasks.
  • Translate highlevel productivity and quality goals into executable AI and agentdriven programs with clear ownership, milestones, and success criteria.
  • Guide teams in designing humanandAI collaborative systems with welldefined abstractions, guardrails, and interfaces between engineers and agents.
  • Ensure agentic and AIassisted workflows deliver measurable improvements in engineering velocity, code quality, reliability, and developer experience.

Organizational & People Leadership

  • Lead and manage a large, multiteam organization of senior performance engineers, specialists, and technical leads.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop toptier performance engineering talent.
  • Build strong firstline and secondline leadership with durable succession plans.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and datadriven decision making.
  • Ensure engineers are mentored, challenged, and aligned with SPE priorities and AMD business goals.

Performance Optimization Program Ownership

  • Own endtoend execution of SPE performance optimization programs across client workloads, including:
    • Productivity, browser, creator, workstation, and emerging workloads
    • Benchmarkrelevant and realworld usage scenarios
  • Translate highlevel performance goals into executable programs with clear ownership, milestones, and success criteria.
  • Ensure optimization efforts deliver measurable improvements in performance, performanceperwatt, responsiveness, and efficiency.

Workload & Benchmark Strategy Execution

  • Drive execution of SPE's workload and benchmark strategy, ensuring the right workloads are selected, analyzed, and optimized.
  • Maintain rigor, credibility, and defensibility in benchmark and workload methodologies.
  • Oversee teams performing:
    • Rootcause analysis using profiling, tracing, and performance counters
    • Correlation of benchmark behavior to realworld application performance
  • Ensure all SPE outputs are explainable, actionable, and trusted by internal stakeholders and external partners.

CrossFunctional Client Impact

  • Partner closely with architecture, platform, OS, power management, and product management teams.
  • Ensure SPE insights directly influence:
    • Client product requirements
    • Platform and microarchitecture tradeoffs
    • Launch readiness and competitive positioning
  • Represent SPE in seniorlevel technical and business forums where performance outcomes materially affect decisionmaking.

Execution at Scale

  • Build and evolve operating mechanisms to support SPE growth, including:
    • Project intake and prioritization
    • Resource allocation across competing initiatives
    • Progress tracking and risk management
  • Balance nearterm delivery needs (product launches, benchmarks) with longerterm investments in tooling, methodology, and ecosystem engagement.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Software performance engineering, benchmarking, or workload analysis experience
  • Deep familiarity with client platforms, including CPUs, operating systems, system software, and performance/power tradeoffs
  • Proficiency in performance analysis techniques such as profiling, tracing, and hardware performance counters
  • Experience working with ISVs, opensource communities, or industry benchmark organizations
  • Demonstrated success scaling technical organizations during periods of growth

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • Advanced degree preferred

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
