Position Title: Platform Team Engineering Lead Location: Remote (In the U.S) Other Considerations:U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Required) POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Team Engineering Lead to support the VA.gov Platform Management team in leading enterprise integration engineering efforts across mission-critical Veteran-facing systems and services. This role will provide technical leadership for integration architecture, API management, platform modernization, and engineering delivery while supporting secure, scalable, and resilient digital services across the VA.gov ecosystem. You will be an experienced engineering leader with deep MuleSoft expertise, strong systems integration experience, and a passion for delivering modern, reliable solutions in complex federal environments. RESPONSIBILITIES Engineering Leadership & Solution Delivery
- Lead engineering teams supporting enterprise integration and API platform initiatives
- Provide technical leadership across platform architecture, integration design, API development, and systems interoperability
- Design, develop,maintain, andoptimizescalable integration solutions supporting enterprise applications and digital services
- Oversee technical implementation activities across development, testing, staging, and production environments
- Support modernization efforts focused on platform scalability, security, reliability, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with Product Leads, platform engineering teams, SREs, DevOps engineers, and government stakeholders to align technical execution with mission priorities
- Ensure engineering solutions align with cybersecurity, compliance, accessibility, and platform governance standards
- Drive engineering best practices, automation, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives
Integration Architecture & Platform Operations
- Lead API lifecycle management, integration architecture planning, and platform configuration activities
- Support enterprise integration patterns, reusable services, and secure data exchange strategies
- Troubleshoot complex integration issues and support root cause analysis, incident resolution, and operational support activities
- Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, operational metrics, and architecture artifacts
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering efforts and manage technical dependencies across teams and external partners
- Support Agile delivery activities including backlog refinement, sprint planning, technical estimation, and release coordination
- Participate in transition planning, onboarding activities, and knowledge transfer sessions supporting operational continuity
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to obtain andmaintaina Public Trust clearance
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, or related engineering/technical disciplinerequired
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant engineering, systems integration, platform architecture, or enterprise software delivery experience
- Additionalrelevant experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirements
- Strong experience leading enterprise integration and API development initiatives in large-scale environments
- Experience designing, building, andmaintainingenterprise integration platforms and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software engineering methodologies
- Experience supporting Agile delivery methodologies and cross-functional engineering teams
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts across technical and executive audiences
Required Certifications Candidates shall possess all of the following certifications:
- MuleSoft Certified Developer - Integration and API Associate
- MuleSoft Certified Developer - Integration Professional
- MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect
- MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting VA.gov or other federal digital service platforms
- Familiarity with enterprise API gateways, integration middleware, observability platforms, and operational support models
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, infrastructure automation, or cloud-native platform engineering
- Experience supporting organizational transitions, onboarding activities, or knowledge transfer efforts
- Experience using Jira, Confluence, GitHub, ServiceNow, or similar engineering collaboration tools
WORKING CONDITIONS Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
