Position Overview
| Essential Job Duties |
The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences encompasses diverse disciplines in research, extension, and teaching. The department's mission is to develop future leaders in crop, soil, and environmental sciences, improve crop plants and products, devise effective and sustainable crop production systems, devise effective and sustainable soil management techniques in both agriculture and urban settings, and disseminate crop, soil, and environmental science knowledge for the benefit of users and producers of food, feed, turf, biofuels, and fiber in North Carolina, the nation, and the world.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- A postdoctoral researcher will lead the development of a genome-wide haplotype stacking framework to better understand and improve complex polygenic traits in small grains.
- The project integrates high-resolution genomic, transcriptomic, and phenotypic data with predictive modeling, simulation, and optimization approaches to identify and assemble favorable haplotype combinations.
- The postdoctoral associate will also lead the preparation of scientific manuscripts, results, and interpretations.

| Department Required Skills |
- PhD in quantitative genetics, plant breeding or related field with experience handling large datasets, including DNA sequence data, haplotypes, and historical phenotypic data.

- PhD in quantitative genetics or bioinformatics with experience working with haplotypes and modeling of haplotype effects.
- Strong data management and analysis skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience preparing high-quality scientific manuscripts.
