What Your Job Will Be Like

As Manager (job title: Manager, R&D Science and Engineering) of 8718, the Systems Analysis IV department, you will lead a high-performing systems analysis team trusted for independent, objective analysis and decision support on high-consequence national-security issues. This team brings together multidisciplinary expertise, technical depth, mission understanding, and strategic thinking to turn complex problems and high-consequence questions into clear, data-driven insights and actionable recommendations for senior leaders.

You will guide the department's strategic direction, build new capabilities, and expand the team's influence across Sandia and the national security community. You will also develop staff and foster positive, supportive culture where people can do their best work and grow their careers.

Department 8718's portfolio emphasizes nuclear deterrence (ND), nuclear nonproliferation, and other high-consequence national-security challenges, and operates as an integrated part of the Systems Analysis & Reliability Group (8710). Our effectiveness depends on strong partnerships across the group to deliver coherent, mission-aligned decision support across Sandia mission areas. In this role, you will work in a highly matrixed staffing environment with peer Systems Analysis managers while managing an ND-focused portfolio, collaborating to align priorities and execute integrated analyses across 8710.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Develop staff and foster a positive, collaborative culture where people can do their best work, maximize their impact, and grow their careers.
  • Set strategic direction for the department by building capabilities, strengthening partnerships, and increasing the impact of the team's work across Sandia and the national-security community.
  • Manage an evolving portfolio of nuclear deterrence and broader national-security analysis, aligning priorities, scope, and resources to mission needs.
  • Oversee mission-critical systems analyses grounded in scientific and engineering fundamentals, ensuring rigor, sound assumptions, and clear, data-driven insights.
  • Build trusted relationships with peers, sponsors, and stakeholders, and communicate complex technical findings clearly to senior decision-makers.
  • Lead program and project execution by coordinating deliverables, schedules, budgets, staffing, and risk to meet customer expectations.
  • Advance systems analysis methods, tools, and workflows to improve analytic quality, speed, and impact over time.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite; must be willing and able to travel 25%.

About Our Team

Department 8718, Systems Analysis IV, is part of Group 8710 (Systems Analysis & Reliability) in the Computation & Analysis for National Security Center (8700). The group delivers independent, objective analysis that provides leaders with reliable, unbiased insights on engineering and strategy options. We are a multi-department team supporting customers across multiple mission areas, including nuclear deterrence, science and energy, and global security, as well as providing internal support to Sandia. By applying advanced tools and methodologies, we combine technical expertise, cross-domain knowledge, and multiple analytic disciplines to help leaders make informed, risk-aware decisions.

Posting Duration

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Applicants for employment need to also be able to obtain and maintain SCI access, which requires US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
