Job Summary

Assists City Manager's Office staff members in their duties, thereby providing the Intern the opportunity to learn about the functions and activities of the City of Kirkland's government functions while contributing valuable work to the City.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Assists the City Managers Office staff by performing a variety of tasks and participating in short-term and long-term projects.
- Assists with administrative and clerical duties related to the City Manager's Office support staff.

- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to independently organize and prioritize workload.
- Ability to work effectively and productively in a group setting.
- Familiarity with standard computer software for word processing and spreadsheet applications (e.g., Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Current enrollment in a community college or undergraduate program focused on computer science or a related field of study is required. Requires a well-developed understanding of and experience in the use of PC hardware and software running in a Windows XP environment. Experience with local area networks running in a Windows environment preferred. Skill with the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Outlook highly desirable. Excellent written, analytic, and verbal communication skills required. Due to the level of security access required for this position, will be required to pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check.
Other Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff and vendors.
- Good planning, organizing, problem solving and time-management skills.

Physical Demands and Working Environment: The intern will regularly to work in an office setting, with occasional support to off-site projects. Data entry and related computer work is done at the computer desktop.
