Performs general repair and maintenance of architectural and structural systems in county buildings. Items such as doors, windows, floors, walls, ceiling stairs, office furniture, shelving, roof repairs and other related work. Safely operates, cleans, maintains and stores a variety of stationery and hand tools, inspects facilities to identify architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing deficiencies, also conducts building safety inspections. Performs more complex skilled trade work independently. Prepares work requests for all necessary architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs and maintenance, coordinates with facility users to correct deficiencies in building systems.
Notes:
- The position location and work schedule can be altered or changed at any given time due to business necessity and continuity of operations.
- A flexible working schedule is required as well as call-back and on call.
- This position requires the incumbent to be issued a procurement card and necessitates adherence to all associated policies and procedures governing use of the card.
- This position is Essential Personnel.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in the building maintenance and construction trades; Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions; Skill in the use of tools, equipment and materials pertinent to the trades; Ability to lead a crew of skilled trades personnel; Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, manufacturer's manuals and shop drawings; Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions; Ability to estimate time and material needs, and determine when repair is not economically practical; Ability to perform routine clerical tasks and basic mathematical computations; Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships; Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a motor vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; plus completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program in a specific trade with two years of full performance-level experience in building maintenance, repair and/or construction trades work; or three years of full performance level experience in two or more skilled trades related to building maintenance and repair work.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least five years of experience in the commercial carpentry trade and with general knowledge of interior finishes. Knowledge in other trades such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC and/or architectural and structural systems. Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to climb extension ladder and scaffolds up to 50 ft. Must be able to lift up and carry up to 75 lbs. With assistance of dolly, lift, or staff. Must be able to stoop, bend and work in tiring/uncomfortable conditions for extended periods of time. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
