Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pharmacy, Shift Supervisor.

In this role, the successful candidate provides direct supervision of pharmacy staff and coordinates daily operations. In the absence of senior pharmacy leadership, assumes delegated managerial responsibilities. Oversee all aspects of medication therapy, including the review of medication orders to ensure clarity, compliance with hospital policies, and appropriateness for individual patients. Ensure documentation of allergies, adverse drug reactions, clinical interventions and PSI reports are completed appropriately. Responsible for medication dispensing, patient counseling as needed, supervision of licensed and non-licensed personnel performing authorized medication-related tasks and inventory management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for holding Supervising Pharmacist position with NYS Board of Pharmacy to meet state regulatory requirements
  • Maintain active NYS Pharmacist license in good standing
  • Responsible for triaging work appropriately to minimize order turn-around time and treatment delay. Accurately processes and dispenses medication orders
  • Maintains accurate patient profiles and logs
  • Communicates to the appropriate medical, nursing and pharmacy staff regarding issues affecting patient care
  • Responsible for ensuring that controlled substances are handled in accordance with federal, state and local regulations, and hospital policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to working in the sterile preparation area and special handling requirements of sterile biohazardous products in accordance with USP 797/800
  • Maintains proper records to satisfy regulatory requirements
  • Enters medication orders accurately from written orders and discontinues medications as applicable
  • Validates Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) orders and makes necessary corrections to follow Hospital policy and procedure and NYS and federal regulations
  • Use Electronic Health Record (EHR) tools and Clinical Decision Support (CDS) to screen for potential errors that may lead to adverse drug events and escalate appropriately
  • Documents interventions, notes, and allergies properly
  • Assists with staff training and development. Ensure all staff are orientated to the department, educated on department policies and procedures, and safety issues (i.e. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Fire extinguishers, etc.) and trained to safely operate all automated equipment
  • Review medications prepared for dispensing for accuracy, correcting any errors
  • Inventory management including but not limited to placing medication orders with designated wholesaler, reconciling daily orders (adhering to government rules and regulations), managing Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) and Anesthesia Workstation (AWS) par levels and inventory, managing supply inventory
  • Complete employee evaluations and ongoing education, coaching etc.
  • Manage pharmacy team schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy or PharmD. Current New York State Pharmacy License 1 - 2 years Hospital Pharmacy experience. Excellent communication (both oral and written), organizational, record-keeping skills. Strong knowledge of federal and state practice regulations and Joint Commission Medication Management Standards and National Patient Safety Goals.

Preferred Qualifications:
Post Doctoral PharmD.
5 years of Hospital Pharmacy experience
1-3 years management experience
Pharmacy experience in an OR/procedure area setting
ADC management experience

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $159,280.64 - $195,118.83 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
