Position Summary

HSD is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Test Engineer to safely facilitate development, qualification, and production level testing of aerospace hydraulic components including pumps, hydraulic motors, electric motors, pump-motor packages, reservoirs, accumulators, actuators, filter modules, valves, and other hydraulic components. Regular on-site attendance is required.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with and support the Test System Integrator and team members to develop and deploy new and upgraded test systems in Production and in the Engineering Test Lab.

  • Create hydraulic schematics and test system models, test fixture models, and drawings.

  • Collaborate with electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic technicians to support system-level diagnostics and repairs.

  • Recommend changes/upgrades for test systems based on current standards and update/maintain those standards.

  • Create Test Plans, Procedures and Reports from customer specifications, industry standards, and engineering drawings.

  • Determine all test objectives and standards by studying product characteristics, customer requirements, government regulations, and conferring with project engineers.

  • Ensure proper measuring sensors are used in the test systems and test setups that meet all calibration requirements.

  • Investigate test problems related to equipment and/or processes. May resolve testing problems by recommending modifications to procedures and/or conferring with project engineers on revisions to test objectives, methods, and standards.

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate tests by training and directing technicians. Provide parameters for sample testing and specify tests to be performed.

  • Document test results using appropriate observation and recording devices. Create a test data history for each product function.

  • Maintain and administer test information to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of relevant data. May develop information requirements and assist in the design of information systems.

  • Report test outcomes by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, and displaying data. Present electronic data in usable engineering format.

  • Conduct failure investigations with high customer visibility and strict test schedules.

  • Identify product design changes during development and qualification testing. Devise tests to establish the root cause of failures; participate in design reviews; analyze and evaluate test data and characterize product performance.

  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, Software Engineers, and Management related to test schedules and technical obstacles.

  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols, 5S standards and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

An individual capable of working with minimal supervision. The desire and motivation to accept the challenge to continuously learn new skills and improve current ones. This individual should have capabilities in the following areas:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related field required.

  • Equivalent military training or hydraulic test experience is beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experienced using AutoCAD or CATIA.

  • Knowledge of aerospace hydraulic, pumps, actuators, motors, and valves; internal components and their effect on the overall performance of the product.

  • Very high degree of organizational skills and the ability to move from task to task with minimal interruption to work progress.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel with high customer visibility and a high regard for safety.

  • Knowledge of various types of standard lab instrumentation and data acquisition systems used for collecting Pressure, Flow, RPM, Current, Voltage, and Temperature data.

  • Capable of performing troubleshooting using Parker problem-solving tools such as 10-step, A3, Pareto, Is-Is Not, 5-Why, Fishbone diagrams, etc.

  • Ability to maintain the integrity of the data collected and testing performed by ensuring that tests are performed per all industry standards and customer requirements while maintaining the test schedule.

  • Familiar with setup, test, repair, disassembly and assembly of aircraft type hydraulic pumps, motors, and hydraulic system components.

  • Ability to write detailed technical reports, e-mails, and other technical communications.

  • Must possess excellent people skills.

Other Skills

  • A working knowledge of basic electronics.

  • Basic-level software programming for test sequences (preferably in LabVIEW).

  • Some machining knowledge and/or experience.

  • Vibration (Random/Sine) Testing Experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of AC and DC motor theory.

Computer Skills

  • Experienced in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work in a LabVIEW environment as a user.

  • Programming experience including LabVIEW sequencers.

The individual must be a motivated self-starter with a willingness to do "whatever it takes" to complete the assigned task. This individual must be willing to accept responsibility to meet accelerated project schedules and stringent test requirements.
