THE POSITION

The Corrections Maintenance Foreman at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Chester plays an important role in keeping the facility safe and running smoothly. This position gives you the chance to guide inmate crews as they complete hands-on maintenance tasks across the institution. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position leads inmate work crews and takes part in maintenance and repair tasks that support the daily operation of the institution. As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman, you will perform the following duties:

  • Work Crew Oversight: Guide inmate crews as they complete construction, maintenance, groundskeeping, and janitorial tasks
  • Task Planning: Plan daily schedules and check completed work for accuracy and quality
  • Equipment Instruction: Teach proper use and basic care of tools, machinery, and vehicles
  • Safety and Order: Maintain discipline, ensure safe practices, and document inmate attendance
  • Skilled Assistance: Assist maintenance staff in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, or welding
  • Tool Control: Issue, track, and secure all tools and materials, including searches of work areas when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
