Responsibilities

The Network Installation and Configuration Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, documenting, and supporting wired and wireless network infrastructure. This role performs hands-on work with structured cabling, network hardware, device configuration, connectivity testing, troubleshooting, and as-built documentation to ensure reliable, secure, and standards-aligned network operations.

Key Responsibilities:
    Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling for LAN, WLAN, and related communications systems.
  • Configure and deploy switches, routers, wireless access points, patch panels, and other network components according to design requirements and site standards.
  • Perform device setup, baseline configuration, firmware updates, and validation of network connectivity and performance.
  • Troubleshoot cabling faults, hardware issues, and basic configuration problems using standard diagnostic tools and procedures.
  • Assist with network upgrades, moves, adds, and changes while minimizing operational disruption.
  • Document installed equipment, cable labels, IP information, configuration details, redlines, and as-built records.
  • Read and interpret floor plans, network diagrams, rack elevations, and installation documentation.
  • Coordinate with project leads, engineers, vendors, and site personnel to support installation sequencing and site readiness.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, security, quality, and regulatory requirements during all installation and configuration activities.
  • Provide turnover support, basic user orientation, and status updates to supervisors or project stakeholders as needed.


Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent related experience or at least two (2) years of telecommunications/electronics vocational training, professional certification from an accredited technical school or equivalent military school
  • 5 years of experience
  • Experience with structured cabling installation, termination, testing, and labeling in commercial, campus, industrial, or government environments.
  • Working knowledge of network hardware and protocols, including switches, routers, wireless access points, VLAN concepts, IP addressing, and basic network security practices.
  • Ability to configure network devices using standard interfaces, templates, or implementation procedures.
  • Experience using cable testers, tone generators, labeling tools, hand tools, and common installation equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, wiring schedules, and configuration documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in active operational, renovation, or construction environments.
  • Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding field installation tasks as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BICSI certification or equivalent structured cabling credential.
  • CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or comparable networking certification.
  • Experience with wireless deployments, rack buildouts, patch management, and change implementation.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications installation standards and labeling practices.
  • Experience preparing turnover packages, test results, and as-built documentation.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

This position may require work in telecommunications rooms, offices, classrooms, data spaces, ceilings, and active renovation or construction environments. The role may involve standing for extended periods, lifting and moving equipment, climbing ladders, and following site access, safety, and security procedures.
