AGE Solutions is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Visio / Design Specialist to support a telecommunications infrastructure refresh for a federal customer in Washington, DC. This effort will support the modernization of enterprise voice, data, and telecommunications infrastructure across a secure, multi-building government environment.

The Telecommunications Visio / Design Specialist will document existing telecommunications infrastructure, translate field-collected survey data into accurate Microsoft Visio drawings and technical diagrams, and support the development of new telecommunications infrastructure solutions based on legacy conditions, project requirements, and engineering direction.

Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Washington, DC to work onsite full time, or be willing to relocate to the Washington, DC area.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Develop, update, and maintain Microsoft Visio drawings supporting telecommunications surveys, existing conditions documentation, engineering markups, proposed solutions, implementation planning, and project deliverables.
  • Translate field notes, survey forms, sketches, redlines, photos, pathway data, cable route information, telecom room data, and legacy records into accurate Visio-based drawings and diagrams.
  • Document existing infrastructure including building entrances, MDFs, IDFs, backbone routes, risers, cable pathways, rack layouts, patch fields, OSP routes, OSP-to-ISP transitions, and known constraints.
  • Analyze legacy infrastructure and support proposed modernization solutions for fiber backbone, copper cabling, pathways, MDF/IDF layouts, rack elevations, patching, labeling, and cable routing.
  • Develop and update floor plan markups, rack elevations, pathway diagrams, cable route drawings, OSP route maps, patch-field diagrams, and endpoint-to-IDF traceability diagrams.
  • Read and analyze Microsoft Project files and provide updates to project schedules.
  • Coordinate with field technicians to resolve missing, unclear, or conflicting field data.
  • Incorporate survey updates, field redlines, engineering comments, QA/QC comments, and customer review comments into controlled Visio files and drawing packages.
  • Maintain drawing version control, file naming standards, drawing logs, revision histories, and controlled drawing packages.
  • Identify pathway limitations, rack-space constraints, cable management issues, incomplete legacy documentation, and other conditions that may affect proposed design solutions.
  • Support preparation of survey acceptance packages, engineering packages, implementation work packages, and final turnover documentation.
  • Ensure Visio deliverables are accurate, organized, properly referenced, and consistent with project standards, customer requirements, and engineering direction.


Required Qualifications:



  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Visio, including technical drawings, floor plan overlays, rack elevations, pathway diagrams, network diagrams, and telecommunications infrastructure layouts.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including schedules, document control spreadsheets, etc.
  • Experience developing or maintaining technical drawings for telecommunications, low-voltage, facilities, construction, IT infrastructure, network infrastructure, or engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications infrastructure design, structured cabling documentation, OSP/ISP planning, network modernization, or low-voltage system design.
  • Ability to interpret and update floor plans, field sketches, redlines, telecom drawings, pathway drawings, rack layouts, and infrastructure markups.
  • Ability to analyze existing infrastructure documentation and survey data to support proposed telecommunications infrastructure solutions.
  • Familiarity with MDFs, IDFs, telecommunications rooms, racks, patch panels, fiber shelves, copper patch panels, backbone cabling, horizontal cabling, cable tray, ladder rack, conduit, sleeves, pathways, risers, building entrances, and OSP/ISP transitions.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling concepts, fiber optics, copper cabling, cable routing, labeling, patching, port administration, rack elevations, and pathway design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to manage drawing updates across multiple buildings, floors, telecom rooms, routes, and project phases.
  • Ability to work onsite full time in Washington, DC.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience supporting secure federal, DoD, intelligence community, or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience supporting structured cabling, fiber optic, copper cabling, OSP/ISP, low-voltage, network modernization, or facilities modernization projects.
  • Experience developing proposed infrastructure solutions from legacy or incomplete telecommunications environments.
  • Familiarity with BICSI standards, structured cabling documentation, labeling conventions, cable administration, grounding and bonding, pathway fill, and as-built documentation practices.


Physical Demands:



  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to carry laptops, drawing packages, documentation binders, or related equipment weighing up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to access telecommunications rooms, project work areas, construction areas, survey locations, and secure work areas when required.
  • Must comply with all site safety and security requirements.


The projected salary range for this position is $85,000+ annually. Final compensation will be determined based on years of relevant experience, active security clearance level, completed background investigation, Visio proficiency, telecommunications design experience, technical skillset, contract requirements, and overall qualifications.
