Job Summary

Sets quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials. Develops methods for testing, sampling and training. Assists line organizations with implementation of EnergySolutions quality assurance (QA) procedures especially in the areas of design control, procurement, records, corrective action, inspection and testing.

Job Duties/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Provides support, as requested, for the development, review, revision and approval of quality-related procedures and plans aimed at ensuring high quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.
  • Ensures project plans are properly executed and evaluates the effectiveness of controls delineated in these plans.
  • Verifies that all required quality sampling, testing and documentation are performed/completed correctly and in accordance with approved project plans.
  • Reviews engineering designs and design changes for compliance with applicable procedures and plans.
  • Serves as a QA representative in project design reviews.
  • Supports management and staff with QA services, as requested (e.g., root cause analyses and critiques).
  • Works with quality inspection supervisors to train and oversee inspectors in their use of control forms and procedures and their correction of quality problems.
  • Ensures engineering and technical staff understand quality requirements and how these requirements apply to their work.
  • Ensures required testing and observations are performed correctly and at the required frequency.
  • Helps line managers and project managers develop, revise, process and evaluate documents for compliance with QA requirements.
  • Performs independent QA assessments/audits and surveillances of processes and procedures.
  • Conducts walkthroughs as requested.
  • Maintains knowledge/qualifications on quality methods and techniques.
  • Reviews engineering packages to ensure appropriate quality controls are specified.
  • Conducts event investigations including critiques, root cause analyses and corrective action verification/validation.
  • Performs supplier evaluations as a team member or lead.
  • Performs on-site QA overview activities at various supplier locations and travels between facilities as necessary.
  • Develops supplier performance metrics and tracks supplier corrective actions.
  • Oversees procurement, fabrication, testing and final document review and release for material shipments. Provides support to, and monitors the quality of, construction activities.
  • Develops and provides training on QA-related topics and assists in the resolution of quality-related problems.
  • Provides training to lower level QA Engineers and staff.
  • Must be able to assist lower level QA Engineers with their work assignments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.




Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education

  • Bachelor's degree required in a technical field (e.g., engineering or a scientific discipline)
  • or 2-8 years of experience
  • A degree in nuclear engineering preferred

Certifications

  • Certification as a lead auditor per NQA-1 is preferred
  • Certification as an ASQ

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 15 years experience as a QA Engineer
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in program management
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience working in a lead role in audit/assessment planning, reporting and follow-up activities

  • Detailed knowledge of NQA-1 and DOE QA regulations and directives
  • Working knowledge of applicable national and/or international testing standards
  • Working knowledge of assessment/ auditing practices
  • Detailed knowledge of nuclear facility QA design control requirements
  • Detailed knowledge of causal analysis techniques
  • Working knowledge of radioactive and/or hazardous material management
  • Detailed knowledge of DOE and NRC processes for Integrated Safety Management Systems, nuclear safety, radiation safety and environmental compliance
  • Detailed knowledge of fabrication and testing of mechanical and electrical systems, national codes/standards, fabrication drawings, welding processes, nondestructive testing processes and mechanical and electrical testing activities


Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to use hands to accomplish tasks as assigned
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk and climb
  • Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
  • Ability to see close and distance; basic colors/shades
  • Ability to work inside an office, outside and in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to work on slippery/uneven walking surfaces
  • Ability to work alone, work with others, and interact with the public
  • Ability to operate equipment, drive a vehicle and travel overnight
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure
