HIV Interactions with Host Factors

Multiple postdoctoral researcher positions are available to study virus interactions with host factors in Dr. Li Wu's lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. The position is for work on one of NIH-funded projects: (1) Targeting HIV-1 RNA modifications in latently infected CD4+ T cells for therapeutic development, or (2) SAMHD1-mediated regulation of HIV-1 innate immunity and viral gene expression.

The Wu lab is in an interdisciplinary and highly interactive department offering state-of-the-art equipment and core facilities. Please refer to our recent publications at the Wu Lab website

Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. degree (0~3-year experience preferred) in virology, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, or genetics are encouraged to apply. Experience in virology research (particularly HIV-1) is highly desired. Expertise in RNA biology and single-cell RNA-sequencing techniques is also desirable. The candidate will be expected to independently manage their research projects in consultation with the PI and will lead the preparation of manuscripts for publication.

The successful candidate(s) will join an existing team of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students and will have the opportunity to be appointed to NIH-funded T32 training grants and to develop independent research projects. Individuals who intend to follow a career in academic science are especially encouraged to apply. Previous postdocs trained in the lab have become independent faculty members at research universities or leading scientists in the biotech industry.
