Technical Accounting Manager We are looking to hire someone to work in our Columbus, Ohio office on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in office) Job Summary The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for technical accounting analysis across the organization and provides guidance on complex transactions, new accounting standards, and financial reporting requirements. The Manager is responsible for researching and documenting accounting positions, developing and maintaining accounting policies, assessing the impact of emerging US GAAP and SEC guidance, and partnering cross functionally with FP&A, legal, treasury, regulatory, IT, and other business stakeholders to support compliant and well-supported conclusions. Additional responsibilities include preparation and review of monthly and quarterly journal entries associated incentive compensation, pension and postretirement benefits, AFUDC and other ad hoc technical matters including review and approval of capitalization requests.
Essential Functions
Partners with budgeting, financial planning, treasury, regulatory, IT (internal use software) and tax to ensure budget timing for planned transactions and other ad hoc requests aligns with GAAP recognition timing (including capitalization assessments). Develops position papers to address complex accounting issues, non-recurring transactions, new accounting guidance, etc. Oversees preparation and review of monthly/quarterly controller's letters (incentive compensation, pension and postretirement plans, AFUDC, etc.). Gathers cross functional input, proposes and implements updates to accounting policies. Supervises and develops staff members to provide a center of technical accounting excellence. Keeps current with emerging accounting and financial reporting guidance and trends including FASB standards and interpretations, and SEC releases and speeches and evaluates for potential impacts to the company. Networks with industry peers to identify and share best practices within the regulated utility industry by serving on AGA/EEI technical accounting committees. Conducts trainings, provides leadership with summaries and presentations that include the potential accounting impacts to NiSource based on accounting research.
Required Qualifications For Position
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related subject At least six years relevant work experience in accounting and financial reporting. Prior record of supervisory experience in an accounting environment. Proven ability to successfully lead projects and staff. Working knowledge of FASB and SEC reporting requirements. Demonstrated proficiency in coordinating activities across functions. Willingness to take on responsibility and challenging work assignments Proven ability to coordinate projects and manage multiple priorities. Strong communication skills including excellent written and presentation skills. Strong technical accounting skills and solid understanding of current generally accepted accounting principles and SEC reporting requirements. Broad technical accounting knowledge including knowledge of accounting for leases, pensions and other postretirement benefits, treasury activities, equity-based compensation plans, restructurings, goodwill impairment analysis, contingencies and impairments, etc. Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and issues. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire

Salary Range*: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00
