TheOphthalmicTechnicianprovidesprimary ophthalmic care to patients under moderate supervision. Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary examinations, subspecialty tests, and contact lens work.

Acquaints all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Informs patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.Determineswhich patient should be taken nextfromthe waiting room to have testinginitiated. Escorts all patients from the waiting room for data collection. Following testing,adviseas to who will see them next and make the patient comfortable duringtheir wait. Maintains a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence asrequired. Communicates with reception and lead ophthalmictechniciantofacilitateproper patient flow.Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, history (ocular and general), family history, and history of allergies and medications.
Audits clinical supply levels, communicating to Physician which itemsfallsbelow par level.Troubleshoot instruments as necessary, replacing bulbs, checking connections, performing archiving functions according to manufacturer recommendations, and reporting continued difficulty.
Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include: Visual Activity, ManualLensometry, Confrontational Visual Fields, Stereo Testing, Evaluation of Motility, Pupillary Function Tests, Color Plates, Application Tonometry, Advanced Refractometry, Retinoscopy, Angle Assessment, Dilation of Pupils, Contact Lens Evaluations, Visual Field Testing, Optic Nerve Scanning (i.e. OCT, HRT), Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, A Scan and B Scan, Ophthalmic Imaging includingFluoresceinAngiography.
Providestelephone supportregardingocular emergencies, prescriptionrefillsand patient care questions.Covers front desk responsibilities as needed. Duties may include answering phones, scheduling and cancelling appointments, pre-registeringand registering patients in Cerner, and preparing patient charts.
