This position is for an Accounting Analyst II for the Plant Accounting and Reporting group in the Asset Accounting department within the Controller's organization of Duke Energy. The Plant Accounting and Reporting group is responsible for the accounting, reporting and analysis for the Company's fixed assets; Nuclear Fuel accounting, Asset Acquisition/Sale accounting, Allowance for Funds Used during Construction (AFUDC), Depreciation, Plant in Service reporting, Rate Case Support, and the accounting for certain Regulatory Riders.

The analyst will work closely with teammates and manager on various accounting activities including; monthly journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, financial statement analysis, and preparation of internal and external reporting. The analyst will also interact frequently with various groups to support business transactions and decisions. The position will also help to analyze and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and effectively prepare presentations for management review and decision making. This position works closely with internal teams within the Controller's organization as well as Regulated Utility Finance, Rates & Regulatory, Tax, and External Reporting. This position will work with moderately complex property issues; therefore, strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis, and reporting for property related balance sheet and income statement accounts.

  • Prepare AFUDC rates, AFUDC analysis to management and other AFUDC related activities.

  • Prepare cash flow workpapers and other schedules used for SEC financials.

  • Prepare and review financial schedules that support internal and external reporting, including FERC filings.

  • Assist with preparation of data requests for internal and external parties.

  • Perform research on GAAP accounting issues and prepare accounting position papers as needed.

  • Research and implement FERC or state regulatory accounting issues including Rate Case support, as well as modifications to, or new, rate orders.

  • Provide accounting support as needed for routine transactions as well as larger strategic initiatives.

  • Understand and maintain proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls and policies.

  • Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed.

Basic Qualifications

Accounting Analyst II

  • Bachelor's degree in (Accounting/Finance/Economics) OR a bachelor's degree in a similar discipline with prior (accounting/finance/economics) work experience

  • Two(2)years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

Senior Accounting Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree in (Accounting/Finance/Economics) OR a bachelor's degree in a similar discipline with prior (accounting/finance/economics) work experience

  • Three(3)years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related fields in addition to degree

  • Experience with financial applications (PeopleSoft FMIS, Power Plan, Hyperion financial management, etc.) and query tools (FIHUB analysis cubes and Business Objects

  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in utility or regulatory accounting environment

  • Master's degree in accounting

  • CPA licensed or CPA candidate

  • Public accounting or auditing experience

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
