Nutritionist II

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking to fill a full-time (40-hour week) Nutritionist II to serve as the Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE) position for the WIC program in the Maternal and Child Health Management division. Breastfeeding support services for individuals and/or families includes high-risk cases in various social-economic conditions in the clinic, home, or other community settings. This position is primarily in-office but may occasionally include some calls/visits outside the clinic and normally scheduled work hours.

Duties and Responsibilities include:


  • Evaluating nutritional needs and making recommendations as to the services needed to meet nutritional standards and risk assessment guidelines.
  • Formulates dietary care plans that may include an appropriate therapeutic plan.
  • Collaborates with other providers to coordinate client health care related to nutrition and food intake and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Provides nutritional counseling.
  • Assumes a caseload of clients, providing targeted education and counseling services on an individual, group, and/or family basis.
  • Makes recommendations for medical nutrition therapy.
  • Conducts high-risk assessments of clients' needs through interviews; consults with other service providers to develop a therapeutic dietary component of a medical care plan.
  • Provides community education on various nutritional issues, health risk factors and related topics.
  • Participates in planning and conducting research on the relationship of dietary factors in health and disease.
  • Must be able to respond to public health emergencies when needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in dietetics, nutrition or a closely related field is required.
  • Registered Dietician licensed by the State of Illinois is required.
  • For WIC nutritionists, 20 hours of nutrition-specific coursework is required.
  • Valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the field of nutrition and dietetics; knowledge of the modern principles, practices, and techniques used to assess, plan, and evaluate nutritional care of individuals and families.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics for individuals and families; knowledge of research methods applied to public health nutrition.
  • Working knowledge of the diversified physical and psychological needs of clients; knowledge of computerized program software and word processing programs. \
  • Ability to determine medical and nutritional risk factors and provide appropriate nutrition counseling; establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, their families, community organizations, and the general public; work with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and coordinate their efforts.


CUPHD provides a comprehensive benefits package which includes:

The expected annual starting salary is $58,405. Full annual salary range for a Class 7 Nutritionist II is $58,405 - $78,847 for a 40-hour week.
