Overview

Under the authority of a Manager or Director of Spiritual Care, provide direct ministry to patients, their family members and hospital staff.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Respectful, compassionate and timely attention to spiritual and emotional needs of patients and families throughout the hospital while on-call, or unit coverage during regular work hours. Successful: timely response to all pager calls; completion of spiritual care consults; follow visitation of patient visits by staff chaplains; positive feedback from patients, families and staff regarding spiritual care; ability to effectively manage multiple crisis calls at once. Outstanding: Examples of excellent customer service which exceeds expectations; chaplain initiated visits (rounding in ICUs, OR Waiting Rooms, etc.) - must be documented in On-Call Log; recognition from Off-Shift Clinical Executive for exceptional spiritual care.
  • 2. Reaching the On-Call Chaplain cumulative target for shifts worked: Successful: 8 am - 4 pm = 10 visits; 4 pm - 8 am = 7 visits; 4 pm - 10 pm = 6 visits; 10 pm - 6:30 am = 2 visits; 24 hours = 15 visits. Outstanding: 8 am - 4 pm = 13 visits; 4 pm - 8 am = 10 visits; 4 pm - 10 pm = 8 visits; 10 pm - 6:30 am = 4 visits; 24 hours = 20 visits.
  • 3. Contribute to a positive work environment via ministry to staff. Successful: Provided one-on-one debriefing or informal prayer to staff in difficult patient care situations as needed. Outstanding: Provide organized/formal prayer services to groups of staff after difficult patient care situations and/or employee crisis/death.

At least one unit of ACPE, Inc. accredited Clinical Pastoral Education

EXPERIENCE

At least one unit of ACPE, Inc. accredited Clinical Pastoral Education

SPECIAL SKILLS

Demonstrated emotional and spiritual maturity sufficient to work in a crisis setting, and demonstrated skills in pastoral care in an institutional setting.
