The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Senior Remote Building Controls Technician to provide fully remote support for building automation and operational technology (OT) environments. This position supports remote programming, system configuration, certificate and user management, remote building control operations, troubleshooting, and OT cyber help desk support for smart building infrastructure. The role works independently with limited supervision, collaborates with engineering and operations teams, and supports customers through secure remote access tools and documented support processes.
Responsibilities/Duties



  • Perform remote programming, configuration, testing, and tuning of DDC building automation and control systems.


  • Develop, modify, and validate control sequences, graphics, alarms, schedules, trends, histories, and integrations using approved remote access methods.


  • Provide remote building control support for HVAC equipment, building automation systems, supervisory controllers, workstations, and connected smart building platforms.


  • Manage building automation platform users, roles, permissions, access groups, passwords, and account lifecycle tasks in accordance with customer and company policy.


  • Support certificate management activities, including certificate requests, installation coordination, renewal tracking, expiration monitoring, and documentation for BAS and OT systems.


  • Provide OT cyber help desk support by triaging BAS, OT network, remote access, authentication, certificate, and connectivity issues.


  • Troubleshoot remotely across controllers, supervisory devices, databases, networks, integrations, communication protocols, and application platforms.


  • Coordinate with field technicians, engineers, cybersecurity personnel, network teams, and customers to resolve issues without routine on-site support.


  • Document service requests, changes, troubleshooting steps, corrective actions, user access changes, certificates, and system configuration updates.


  • Monitor system alarms, remote support queues, ticket status, and operational performance to support timely response and resolution.


  • Assist with remote commissioning, functional testing, point-to-point verification support, trend review, and post-installation stabilization when field resources are available on site.


  • Provide remote customer support, user guidance, and knowledge transfer for building automation platforms and secure operating procedures.


  • Help educate lower-level technicians through remote coaching, documentation, and knowledge base contributions as needed.



*This position is intended to be entirely remote, with no routine travel requirement.
Required Skills



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for remote customer support, ticket documentation, and team coordination.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, remote collaboration tools, ticketing systems, and related software.


  • Strong BAS/DDC programming skills, including the ability to develop, troubleshoot, and modify control logic remotely.


  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and remote troubleshooting skills.


  • Knowledge of DDC control theory and applications related to HVAC equipment and smart building systems.


  • Strong knowledge of common DDC and BAS communications protocols, such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, and related IP-based communications.


  • Ability to support user account administration, role-based access, password resets, access reviews, and secure remote access processes.


  • Understanding of certificate lifecycle concepts, including certificate requests, renewals, expiration tracking, and installation coordination.


  • Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity support practices, including incident triage, access control, remote connectivity, and escalation procedures.


  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to support customers, field technicians, engineers, and cybersecurity teams in a fully remote environment.



Required Experience/Education



  • At least 5 years of experience supporting building automation, DDC controls, BAS programming, remote troubleshooting, startup, commissioning, or operations.


  • Niagara N4 certification or equivalent demonstrated experience with Niagara-based building automation platforms.


  • Experience supporting multiple controls manufacturers and BAS platforms in a remote or centralized support environment.


  • Experience with remote access tools, BAS supervisory platforms, OT networks, IP addressing, controller communications, and system integrations.


  • Experience documenting service tickets, change records, user access activity, certificate activity, and troubleshooting procedures.



Preferred Skills/Experience



  • Experience providing remote help desk, service desk, or network operations support for building automation, OT, or smart building environments.


  • Experience with certificate management, identity and access management, remote access administration, or cybersecurity support processes.


  • Experience with Niagara, Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Distech, Automated Logic, or similar BAS platforms.


  • Willingness to perform one week per month of night shift work to support remote operations, maintenance windows, and after-hours customer needs.



Physical Requirements



  • Ability to work in a remote office environment for extended periods using a computer, phone, collaboration tools, remote access platforms, and ticketing systems.


  • Ability to participate in scheduled after-hours or night shift coverage when required.
