About the Position

As a Temporary Mail Courier, you would help facilitate the election process by making postal runs to retrieve mailed ballots and dropping off and picking up ballots to be scanned at the vendor. In addition, our Temporary Mail Courier loads and unloads ballot carts at vendor and MCTEC facilities and operates mail-opening machinery to ensure all mail is opened and processed.

We Require

This position requires a high school diploma or GED.

Other Requirements

  • Must be a registered voter or have the ability to become a registered voter in the State of Arizona by the time of hire
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • May be required to use a County vehicle, which would require a valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and attendance in Maricopa County's Defensive Driving Course
  • Must pass an applicable background screening
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary

Job Contributions

  • Pushes and pulls baker racks that weigh up to 150 pounds and postal cages weighing up to 250 pounds around the mail room, pre-tabulation processing staging area, or secured ballot vault
  • Completes postal runs to the United States Postal Service (USPS). Picks up printed items from Runbeck Elections and drops off ballots for imaging to initiate the signature verification process
  • Stands for a long period while utilizing electronic mail opening machinery to open ballots in bulk prior to pre-tabulation ballot processing
  • Assists with end-of-day clean-up and mail room organization

Working Conditions

  • Full-time/Temporary/Overtime/Holiday hours are mandatory during the election cycle
  • Requires the use of a County vehicle to travel within Maricopa County
  • Requires the ability to review small fonts on hard copy, to stand for extended periods, to walk on an inclined surface, the use of upper extremity repetitive motion, pivoting a minimum of up to 20 pounds, the ability to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of up to 20 pounds and carry it up to 450 feet, the ability to reach overhead and lift a minimum of up to 20 pounds, the ability to push/pull a minimum of up to 250 pounds for up to 450 feet, and to work in close proximity to others
  • Closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times
  • Duties may be performed indoors or outdoors in potentially high temperatures and may expose the employee to dust particles and loud noise
  • All operations will be conducted under livestream cameras and in the presence of political observers
  • Must not engage in any political discussion during the election

  • Pallet jack and electric pallet jack
  • Carts
  • Baker racks
  • Postal cages
