Senior Maritime Solutions Architect

We are seeking a Senior Maritime Solutions Architect to serve as the technical authority supporting Navy and Marine Corps Business Development. This is a customer-facing role focused on shaping and capturing new Navy and Marine Corp opportunities by architecting solutions that connect data from manned and unmanned platforms across the all-domain naval force back to Afloat Operations Centers, Maritime Operations Centers, and expeditionary command centers.

Reporting into Navy and Marine Corps Business Development, this role will bridge Navy and Marine Corps operational concepts, acquisition realities, and Viasat's platform capabilities, ensuring our solutions enable maritime domain awareness, targeting, and decision advantage across distributed and contested environments.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Serve as the technical architect for Navy and Marine Corps growth initiatives, aligning operational Navy and Marine Corps concepts with Viasat platforms, products, and services.
• Design architectures that fuse data from manned and unmanned naval platforms (surface, subsurface, air, space, cyber) into maritime C2 nodes at tactical and operational echelons.
• Architect solutions supporting Project Overmatch, JADC2 alignment, and Navy-specific C2 constructs such as MTC-A/X, NIFE/TIFE, and maritime fires networks.
• Ensure solutions support resilient operations in contested environments, including EMCON, LPI/LPD, cyber resilience, and degraded SATCOM conditions.
• Develop transport, data, and application-layer architectures that integrate multi-orbit SATCOM, tactical radios, data links, and terrestrial networks into a unified mission fabric.

Business Development & Capture Support

• Act as Technical Authority for Navy-focused pursuits, including RFIs, RFPs, and unsolicited proposals.
• Translate Navy and Marine Corps CONOPs, ICDs, CDDs, and operational gaps into compelling solution architectures and technical volumes.
• Partner with Navy and Marine Corps BD leadership to shape capture strategies, win themes, and differentiated technical approaches.
• Lead development of operational and system views (OV-1, SV-1, mission threads) to clearly communicate solution value to Navy and Marine Corps decision-makers.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as the technical interface with Navy and Marine Corps stakeholders across operational, requirements, and acquisition communities (e.g., OPNAV N-codes, SYSCOMs, PMWs, Fleet staffs).
• Support technical exchanges, demonstrations, field experiments, and wargames with Fleet and acquisition partners.
• Represent Viasat at Navy and Marine Corps focused industry events, labs, and exercises.
• Coordinate with internal engineering, product, and IRAD teams to align roadmaps with Navy needs.

Demonstrations & Prototyping

• Lead integration and execution of high-visibility demos and pilots showcasing live data flows, maritime domain awareness, and C2 integration.
• Rapidly integrate hardware, software, and partner capabilities to demonstrate end-to-end mission relevance.
• Support experimentation with Navy and Marine Corps labs and analysis partners to evolve architectures toward acquisition.
• Have knowledge of Signature Management and LPI/LPD (Low Probability of Intercept/Detection). You must understand how to architect systems that minimize RF footprint to support survivability inside the Weapons Engagement Zone (WEZ).
• Experience integrating heterogeneous tactical waveforms. The ability to blend commercial SATCOM with tactical radios and networks into a unified transport layer.
• Understanding of PACE planning automation. designing systems that automatically route traffic over the most secure/available link without manual operator intervention.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• 10+ years of experience in solutions architecture, or technical roles within the defense industry, with a proven track record in delivering integrated solutions.
• Strong technical expertise in areas such as systems engineering, software architecture, cybersecurity, or military-specific technologies (e.g., C4ISR, unmanned systems).
• Demonstrated experience in capture management for federal or military contracts, including familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and product lifecycle management.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling business narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with requirements management and product management toolsets (Jenkins, Github, Jira, PLM software or DoD equivalent)
• Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, or similar for technical diagramming and proposal development.
• US citizenship required.
• DoD Active US Secret clearance

PREFERENCES

• Master's degree in relevant technical discipline or MBA with a focus on defense business.
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, Cisco Certified Network Associate, CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge / experience
• Experience with Government systems and service acquisition
• SD-WAN / SD-LAN experience with focus on network function virtualization (NFV), network slicing, and network orchestration.
• Prior experience working with container technology such as Docker/Kubernetes
• Knowledge/Experience of cloud platforms: Amazon, Openstack, Microsoft's Azure, Google Cloud Platform
• Knowledge/Experience of encryption products / processes / architectures
• Knowledge/Experience of tactical datalink products / processes / architectures
• DoD US TS/SCI Clearance

• Prior experience with Navy organizations such as OPNAV, NAVWAR, NAVAIR, PMW/PMA offices, or Fleet staffs.
• Familiarity with:
• Project Overmatch and Navy JADC2 implementation
• Maritime Targeting Cells (Afloat/Expeditionary)
• CANES / ADNS
• DCGS-N, Minotaur, or maritime ISR architectures
• Joint Fires and maritime integrated fires networks
• Experience with:
• Data fusion and maritime domain awareness systems
• Zero Trust and secure networking in contested environments
• Cloud, edge compute, and software-defined networking
