C5ISR Interior Communications (IC) Principal Electrical Designer

About the Role:

The C5ISR Interior Communications (IC) Principal Electrical Designer plays a critical role in the design and development of advanced communication systems within Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) platforms. This position is responsible for creating detailed electrical designs that ensure reliable and secure interior communication networks on military and defense systems. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical designs seamlessly with other system components, ensuring compliance with stringent military standards and operational requirements. The Principal Electrical Designer will lead design reviews, troubleshoot complex electrical issues, and provide technical guidance to junior personnel. Ultimately, this position ensures that interior communication systems are robust, maintainable, and meet mission-critical performance criteria in diverse operational environments.

Required Qualifications:

• 15 years of shipyard experience in design, installation and test of shipboard interior communications systems
  • Specific systems experience with sound powered phones, announcing systems, alarm systems, visual landing aids and Gigabit Ethernet
• Proficiency with electrical design tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, Bluebeam, Mentor Graphics, or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with signal integrity, EMI/EMC considerations, and ruggedized system design.
• Familiarity with network communication protocols and cybersecurity principles in military communication systems.
• Planning Yard and/or Test and Trials experience
• Production or installation drawing experience.
• Familiarity with MIL-SPEC, MIL-STD and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requirements

Responsibilities:

• Develop and produce detailed electrical design documentation for interior communication systems within C5ISR platforms.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, mechanical designers, and software teams to integrate electrical designs into overall system architecture.
• Conduct design reviews and provide technical leadership to ensure compliance with military standards and project requirements.
• Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution for electrical design issues during development, testing, and deployment phases.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical designers and engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and best practices.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and support production readiness.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and industry standards relevant to interior communications and electrical design.
