Associate Engineer - Distribution Engineering

Overview

Distribution Engineering is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its Civil/Structural team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing review of structures to ensure operations can perform work in a safe environment for existing and new structures. The engineer will perform technical evaluations, write and update engineering specifications.

A strong understanding of structural elements loads and stresses on these elements, and codes that govern standardized methods of design and installation is essential for this role. The engineer will work closely with internal teams to ensure sound guidance is provided when addressing concerns with internal or external customers. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required, as is the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Additional responsibilities include managing engineering projects requiring customized solutions, performing field inspections, reviewing installation designs, and preparing technical standards. They should be able to perform a failure analysis, data review, and issue resolution. The engineer will review and update specifications that pertain to structures related to distribution of electric power throughout all regions. This will also include but not limited to covers, gratings, and doors.

In times of emergency, the engineer must be prepared to provide immediate engineering support and take on a leadership role in resolving field issues. The role may also require the preparation and delivery of technical training or seminars related to distribution system practices. Overall, this is a critical position for someone eager to apply their skills to strengthen the infrastructure and support the continued advancement of the electric distribution system.

Responsibilities

• Join Distribution Engineerings civil/structural team as a highly motivated professional contributing to support of review and design of structural.
• Support and ensure full implementation of the companys safety, health, and environmental programs for all assigned personnel.
• Embrace and promote a proactive, customer-focused mindset to help foster trust, improve service, and deliver value to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct detailed engineering analyses and perform lab testing on new designs, vendor products, and emerging technologies.
• Travel to field locations as necessary to support testing, troubleshooting, and equipment evaluations.
• Perform engineering studies and calculations to define and improve design structure.
• Collaborate effectively in team-based environments, particularly during technical specification evaluations
• Deliver timely, data-driven insights through ad-hoc analytics to support event investigations and executive-level summaries.
• Develop and issue comprehensive reports addressing defects and provide method for temporary and permanent remediation of structures.
• Respond to emergency calls from operational departments and make informed decisions within the scope of engineering responsibility.
• Study and evaluate engineering codes including but not limited to ACI, AISC, Geotechnical Report analysis, local building codes, permitting requirements affecting Con Edison structures. Perform and review structure design analysis and construction details.
• Collaborate with Procurement and Cost Management teams to generate and monitor purchase orders related to structures such as but not limited to vaults, manhole covers, and gratings.
• Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of civil/structure engineering work experience.

• Able to thrive in a highly collaborative environment and work closely with engineers on lab testing and system evaluations, required.
• Able to review engineering submittals containing design plans and calculations, and perform structure design/analysis, required.
• Demonstrates strong organizational, interpersonal, presentation, and both written and verbal communication skills, required.
• Knowledgeable about low-voltage electrical distribution equipment, preferred.
• Masters in Civil/Structural Engineering, preferred.

• Other: New York Professional Engineer / FE Preferred

• The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
