A Day in the Life of a Commissioning Specialist at Hanson

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

• Support new and existing building commissioning and retro-commissioning projects for a variety of facility types.
• Conduct building systems assessments and assist with control system evaluations.
• Review design documents, specifications, and contractor submittals for compliance with project requirements and commissioning objectives.
• Develop and execute functional performance test procedures for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems.
• Participate in commissioning meetings and coordinate activities with project stakeholders, contractors, and design teams.
• Monitor construction progress and observe system installations to verify adherence to design intent and project specifications.
• Lead or assist with functional testing activities and ensure commissioning documentation is complete and accurately maintained.
• Observe and support training sessions for operations and maintenance personnel.
• Evaluate building system performance and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
• Prepare commissioning reports, issues logs, and final project documentation.
• Perform post-occupancy evaluations and warranty-period inspections to verify system performance and occupant satisfaction.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality technical work products and meet project schedules.
• Assist with proposal development, project scoping, scheduling, and client presentations as needed.
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, codes, standards, and best practices related to building systems and commissioning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

We believe the following qualifications will set you up for success in this role:

Skills

• Working knowledge of building commissioning principles, processes, and industry standards.
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS), facility management systems, and HVAC controls.
• Experience performing building system assessments and identifying optimization strategies for improved energy consumption and/or indoor environmental quality.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of building codes, ASHRAE standards and guidelines, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, controls, and sustainable design principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, with clients, contractors, facility personnel, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Familiarity with commissioning platforms such as CxAlloy or equivalent software.
• Familiarity with sustainable certification process and credits. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required for specific projects.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in commissioning, building systems design, facility operations, construction administration, or a related field.
• Commissioning certification (ACG CxA, BCxA CCP, ASHRAE BCxP, or similar) or the ability to obtain in six (6) months.
• Experience supporting commissioning projects through design, construction, functional performance testing, and occupancy phases.
• Experience supporting retro-commissioning through assessment, investigation, reporting on improvement measures, implementation, and ongoing commissioning.
• Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building automation, and control systems.
• Familiarity with healthcare, higher education, aviation, federal, state, local government, commercial, or other institutional building projects is preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000, depending on experience.
