Overview
As a partner with Skill, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to drive market penetration and strengthen competitive positioning within the critical public safety sector. This role offers a unique opportunity to significantly impact the provision of essential vehicles to law enforcement, fire, and rescue agencies across the continental U.S., serving as a vital link between these agencies and our innovative solutions. You will play a crucial part in accelerating market presence, enhancing customer experience, and ensuring long-term satisfaction for public safety fleets. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Government Sales Business Development Manager to support government fleet sales initiatives through targeted business development within the public safety market, including law enforcement, fire, and rescue agencies. This specialized role provides public safety fleet expertise not replicated internally and is intended to accelerate market penetration, strengthen competitive positioning, and enhance the customer experience across municipal, state, and federal agencies. This position will serve as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and public safety customers, leveraging deep industry knowledge, established relationships, and post-sale guidance to drive growth and long-term customer satisfaction. This is a highly customer-facing role that requires significant travel (approximately 50% or more) to support agency meetings, field observation, industry events, fleet evaluations, vehicle launches, demonstrations, training sessions, and customer engagement activities across the continental U.S. Success in this role is measured through business development support, relationship building, customer engagement, market intelligence, and contribution to government sales growth objectives, rather than strict sales quotas. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert for public safety vehicle requirements, fleet operations, and mission-specific applications within law enforcement, fire, and rescue environments.
- Support business development efforts by identifying, developing, and advancing opportunities with local, state, and federal public safety agencies.
- Accelerate market penetration and competitive positioning by providing insights into public safety procurement trends, operational requirements, funding mechanisms, and competitive offerings.

- Leverage existing relationships with government officials, fleet managers, chiefs, command staff, procurement leaders, and other key decision-makers to support customer engagement and sales efforts.
- Conduct in-person customer visits, attend industry conferences and trade shows, support vehicle demonstrations, and represent the company at public safety fleet events.
- Provide post-sale guidance to ensure successful vehicle deployment, upfitting coordination, fleet implementation, and lifecycle customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate closely with our government sales teams, engineering, marketing, and leadership to align customer requirements with our solutions.
- Support customer education regarding vehicle capabilities, operational applications, procurement options, and emerging industry trends.
- Enhance the overall customer experience from pre-sale consultation through post-delivery support.
- Gather and communicate market intelligence, customer feedback, competitive insights, and emerging public safety requirements to internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant public safety, fleet, procurement, or leadership experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
- Experience with government fleet procurement, vehicle purchasing, fleet operations, or acquisition decision-making.
- Established relationships within local, state, and federal public safety organizations.
- Strong knowledge of public-sector procurement processes and government purchasing practices.
- Demonstrated credibility and influence within the public safety community.
- Proven ability to support business development, market expansion, or customer relationship initiatives.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills to include delivering presentations to public safety leaders, fleet decision-makers, government officials, and large industry audiences.
- 5-10 years of relevant public safety experience, with emphasis placed on quality and relevance of experience over strict tenure requirements.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
