This position also serves as a clinical resource to colleagues, providing consultation and expertise in crisis assessment, risk management, and stabilization.
GW values an inclusive environment, and we encourage applications from candidates who share our commitment to amplifying student voices, pursuing equity, engaging in transformational collaboration, and supporting learning, innovation, integrity, and respect. This position requires exceptional clinical judgment, familiarity with ethical and legal procedures, and the ability to navigate highly sensitive situations with compassion and professionalism.
Major Responsibilities:

- Assess, evaluate, and diagnose a wide range of psychological disorders, personal challenges, educational concerns, and career development issues affecting undergraduate and graduate students, exercising sound clinical judgment in complex cases.
- Provide evidence-based, culturally responsive psychotherapy and demonstrate multicultural competence and a commitment to working effectively with underrepresented and underserved populations.
- Maintain a small caseload of high-acuity clients requiring short-term bridging or stabilization. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans consistent with CAPS' Stepped Care model, making independent clinical decisions regarding interventions, referrals, and appropriate levels of care.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and ethically sound clinical documentation and electronic medical records in compliance with applicable legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Exercise professional autonomy and accountability in clinical practice, recognizing the limits of one's expertise and consulting or escalating concerns when clinically indicated.
- Maintain D.C. licensure in good standing and engage in relevant continuing education, training, and professional development to sustain and advance clinical expertise.
Crisis Response
- Independently assess and respond to students presenting with high-acuity mental health needs, including conducting comprehensive risk and safety assessments, delivering therapeutic intervention, developing care and safety plans, coordinating referrals and follow-up, and implementing emergency protocols as clinically indicated.
- Exercise advanced clinical judgment in determining risk level, appropriate disposition, need for higher levels of care, and coordination with campus and community resources, while documenting clinical rationale and actions taken.

Independently facilitate cross-functional communication and collaboration to support coordinated, trauma-informed student care.
- Serve as CAPS' clinical liaison to the Threat Assessment Team (TAT), contributing specialized mental health expertise to multidisciplinary risk assessment, case consultation, and recommendations. Apply clinical knowledge to inform decision-making while recognizing the distinct roles and responsibilities of clinical care and threat assessment.
- Provide clinical consultation and guidance to Student Health Center (SHC) clinicians regarding crisis assessment, risk management, de-escalation, safety planning, and appropriate clinical response. Support colleagues in strengthening their clinical skills and confidence in responding to high-acuity situations.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen crisis response practices, care coordination, and communication across CAPS and campus partners; proactively recommend improvements based on clinical experience, emerging needs, and professional best practices.
- Develop and deliver outreach, education, and training on mental health crisis response to relevant campus constituencies, promoting early identification, appropriate referrals, and effective responses to students in distress.
- Maintain accountability for timely follow-through, appropriate documentation, and effective coordination of complex crisis cases, exercising initiative to resolve barriers to care and engaging CAPS leadership when consultation, additional resources, or escalation is warranted.
- This position is entirely on-site and follows a 10-month work schedule, with June and July designated as non-working months.
