What you'll do

Our teams include professionals in Automation, Data & Machine Learning, and Software Engineering within our Test Division. These teams work to provide automation to improve system scalability & resiliency, efficiency and accelerate high-quality, data-informed decision making.

The team you will be working with, Automation Services, specifically assists teams to achieve their development and test goals by improving their software delivery performance. We do this by providing platforms and frameworks that remove the friction in attaining fast, on-demand, realistic, reliable testing/validation feedback and reducing the cost of environment maintenance and management.


The day-to-day

You will work with the team to manage and improve internal tools and infrastructure. Responsibilities will include:

  • Adding new features to internal APIs and tools
  • Improving our Libraries
  • Maintaining servers used by other teams
  • Understanding internal users needs and identifying ways to improve their experience
  • Creating and/or improving dashboards
  • Working on the Automation Services backlog & fixes

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.

  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.

  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.


What you'll need

Education Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
    • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 - August 15th, 2025
    • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 - September 12th, 2025

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with Python or an equivalent programming language
  • Experience with Docker

What will help you on the job

  • Experience programming with:
    • Java and/or Groovy
    • Golang
  • Familiarity with Django
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Previous Viasat internship experience

Salary range

$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
