Job Title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Neurosurgery Location: Detroit, MI Department: Neurosurgery Reports To: Supervising Neurosurgeon Inpatient/Outpatient: 100% inpatient Case Load: All Ages (mostly adults, 20% children/pediatrics. Consultation for both adult and pediatric neurosurgeon on call. Position Overview: Seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our esteemed neurosurgery team at our Level 1 Trauma Comprehensive Stroke Center. This inpatient-only role involves providing high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with neurological conditions, including trauma and stroke, during the night shift from 6 PM to 6 AM. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical expertise in neurosurgery, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care. Inpatient rounding, see consults and round on patients throughout the hospital. ICU care and shared decision making with intensivist teams. Discharge planning and throughout of patients. Prefer NP or new graduate have ICU experience. If PA and new grad, have hospital experience as a PCT or Nurse Assistant, preferably in an ICU or step-down setting. If not a new grad, prefer some critical care experience or ED experience. Schedule - 6p-6a, salaried, 240 hours in a 6-week period. Weekend requirement - Yes, every 4th currently. Call requirement - No. On call may occur if low censused (rare) OR Time - No. Provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.| Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.| Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.| Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care. Qualifications: * NP - Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) * PA - Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) * NP - Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan * PA - Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Licensure and Certification * Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application) * National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA) * Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required. * Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. * DEA/CSL, required through credentialing. Experience * Prefer NP or new graduate have ICU experience. If PA and new grad, have hospital experience as a PCT or Nurse Assistant, preferably in an ICU or step-down setting.
